Stepper died after collision with car | Brussels
Molenbeek-Saint-JeanIn Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, not far from the West station, a 39-year-old man died on a step on Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle. That was right for the Brussels-West police zone and the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.
The collision happened around 5:15 a.m. A passenger car and a scooter collided with the intersections of Ninoofsesteenweg and Nicolas Doyenstraat in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. The driver of the car immediately notified police. The emergency services were quickly on the spot, but all help was to no avail. The victim died on the spot half an hour later, at 5:45 am.
The first elements of the investigation show that the driver of the car did not see the step coming. The file has been submitted to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. “The investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident as well as the responsibility of the parties involved is ongoing,” said Stefan Vandevelde, spokesperson for the Brussels park.
Electricity accidents are common in the Brussels-Capital Region. According to a study by the Vias Institute, there is an average of one victim per week in the emergency departments. In certain areas this can be up to two or three a week.
