Burglar crashes into police car and tries to stab officer in the head
A burglar was arrested by the police on the night of Monday to Tuesday, in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille. He hit the police vehicle with his stolen car and attempted to stab one of the officials in the head, before being overpowered. The drunken suspect claimed to be an Algerian minor.
The intervention was eventful and four police officers were slightly injured. It all started with a call from a local resident reporting a suspicious individual in rue Bienvenu, located in the Périer district (8th district), shortly before 5 a.m. The man behind the wheel of a Peugeot 3008 roams around and seems to take a close interest in the houses while the whole neighborhood is asleep. The first checks carried out with the vehicle’s registration show that it has been reported stolen.
A first police-rescue crew quickly arrived on the scene and came face to face with the suspect installed in this car. The police order him to get out of the but the man presses on the accelerator and charges at one of the officials deliberately indicated to a source close to the investigation. The suspect does not go very far and collides with a second police vehicle arriving in front of him. This time, he decides to engage the reverse gear and returns to the first police officers. The 3008 hit a wall and came to a stop.
A knife of about thirty centimeters
The car doors are closed and the man refuses to exit. The police try to smash a window to reach the driver and overpower him, but the situation escalates. The latter is indeed armed with a knife of about thirty centimeters. “It was one of the determined police officers around the car who noticed the knife in this man’s hand. He alerted his colleagues “, describes this source. An important glance since a few moments later, the man stabbed one of the officials while trying to hit him in the head. Tear gas is used to disrupt the attacker who is quickly brought to the ground and handcuffed, as he rebels.
Stolen items
On him, the police discovered a second knife, smaller, but also a watch, a bracelet and some keys that would have those of a house. During the findings, the police discovered that the suspect had broken the bay window of a house located a few steps away, obviously without having time to enter. The arrested was drunk and was taken into police custody, in particular for attempted murder of the person holding public authority, attempted break-in, rebellion and concealment of theft.
Further investigations should make it possible to determine where these objects and keys will come from. The identity of this man will also be verified by investigators, as will his administrative situation on French territory. “He said he was a 15-year-old homeless Algerian”, adds our source.
