‘When Will You Pay Attention?’ MGRM Asks Archbishop of Malta How Mosta Parish Priest Says Gay ‘Worse Than Possessed’
A leading Maltese gay rights lobby has called on Archbishop Charles Scicluna in a series of Tweets to finally acknowledge and condemn the queer hatred of Father David Muscat who said that being gay is “worse than being possessed. ”.
“How often do we need to write to you about a homophobic hate speech by one of your priests before you acknowledge our emails?” asked the MGRM to the Archbishop.
Father David Muscat is a resident and priest of Mosta who has been very vocal about his contempt for the LGBTQIA + community.
He ridiculed the queer community by saying “this minority or whatever, don’t think there are people in this orientation who are proud of this LGBT … XYZAB.”
And his most recent comment compared homosexuality to mental disorders, such as schizophrenia, and said it was worse than being possessed. The comment comes after the rape and brutal murder of Paulina Dembska at the hands of Abner Aquilina.
“She is OK [Abner Aquilina] is gay or bisexual so this has to be added to his list of disorders including schizophrenia and malice. He has a recipe for sudden, poor disorders, “said Muscat.
“Like someone with high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer all at once. Abner needs help, “he said.
“It’s even worse than being in possession … being gay is worse.”
For MGRM, this comment was the last straw.
“This is the first time we have written publicly about it because now, all red lines have been crossed,” read one of their tweets.
“From the first appearance on Xarabank, we asked for your help to protect vulnerable members of our community. We asked for nothing more than a friendly meeting to talk about the consequences we see in our daily work after comments like St. Muscat’s. “
“Unfortunately, silence is nothing more than a clear confirmation that our community remains not only isolated but persecuted.”
This is not the first comment left by Muscat to suggest that Abner Aquilina, the rapist and murderer of Paulina Dembska, is gay.
Dembska was a Polish citizen living in Malta who was raped and strangled by a 20-year-old resident of Żejtun in the early hours of 2 January.
A photo of Aquilina wearing a colorful T-shirt that bore no resemblance to the Pride flag seems to have raised Muscat.
In response, Allied Rainbow Communities president Clayton Mercieca called him and labeled Muscat the “King of Bigots”.
Unfortunately, Muscat is using a tragic case of gender-based violence and feminicide to push his own discriminatory agenda, this time towards the queer community.
This kind of manipulation and hatred must be condemned by the Archbishop if he expects Maltese citizens to take the Church seriously and does not see it as an institution that tolerates fundamentalist ideologies.
What do you think of Muscat’s nasty words?
