German newspaper: The fight against Poland and Hungary has had a toxic effect on the EU’s internal cohesion
Germany should return to the role of mediator between West and East and between big and small, as Helmut Kohl and Emmanuel Macron did in the past, writes the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
An article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung draws attention to the fact that some of the measures taken by the Polish and Hungarian governments run counter to the rule of law, and it is becoming increasingly clear that they share a common set of values. The author also notes that the fight against Poland and Hungary in recent years has not been in line with the spirit of cooperation, but has had a toxic effect on the EU’s internal cohesion.
The article highlights that Germany should return to the role of mediator between West and East and between big and small, as Helmut Kohl used to do, and now Emmanuel Macron, who recently saw Viktor Orbán, recognizing that without the unity of all communities further integration is doomed to failure. The article draws attention to the fact that European unification was not created to merge European identities and values, but for cooperation and mutual benefit between sovereign states. Young people remind the European community that “Unity in diversity” it does not mean uniting diversity.
