Portugal closed the year with 2.8%. Unprocessed foods skyrocket in price – Observer

Prices rose, in December 2021, compared to the same month of the previous year, by 2.8%, accelerating compared to the 2.6% rise that had been registered in November.
Second released this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the average change in recent months must have been 1.3%. This is the account for, for example, the estimate of salary increases in the civil service, which will amount to 0.9% in 2022, as decided by the Government.

In the last month of the year, the consumer price index was thus at 2.8%. Excluding unprocessed food and energy products, published at 1.8%. Energy products should rise, in December, 11.2%, less than the 14.1% that were rising in November. But unprocessed food products soared. They rose 3.2% in December, compared to a 0.8% increase in November.
The Portuguese Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which is used by Eurostat to compare the various European countries, will also have increased by 2.8% (2.6% in the previous month).
The final data for December will be released by INE on January 12th.
