Despite difficulties: Leyhe qualifies in Innsbruck | hessenschau.de
Ski jumper Stephan Leyhe took a strong eighth place overall in the qualification for the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck. Willinger had a struggle there, but will be there on Tuesday and has big plans.
The German ski jumpers around Stephan Leyhe from Willingen have mastered the qualification at the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, but did not jump right into the front. Leyhe did not get past 24th place. But that means he is qualified for the jumping on Tuesday. But: “The change from Garmisch here is a bit tricky,” said Willinger, who had a hard time with the hill on Bergisel. “We have reached our goal and tomorrow we have to remedy the mistakes.” Leyhe then has to face the Italian Giovanni Bresadola on Tuesday.
Karl Geiger flew to 119.5 meters and thus took tenth place, also the New Year’s second Markus Eisenbichler was well known on the Bergisel with 119 meters and eighth place. “The day wasn’t too bad. The qualifying jump could have been better, but all in all okay,” said Geiger. The Japanese overall leader Ryoyu Kobayashi, who jumped 126.5 meters, secured victory in the qualification.
Friend not an enemy of the hill
On Tuesday (1.30 p.m.) the third of four jumping competitions is on the program in Innsbruck. Eisenbichler had previously made a dream jump and had flown 139 meters. “Markus had a first-class jump in training. I think it was a nice day for him,” said national coach Stefan Horngacher.
The attempt does not count as a hill record because it was not an official competition jump. In addition to Geiger and Eisenbichler, all five other athletes also qualified for the Bergisel jump. Severin Freund was the best German in sixth and also took advantage of the intensive summer training in Tyrol. “It definitely helped for me. It’s a separate hill, so it can help to come up with a concept in the summer,” commented Freund. Constantin Schmid (25th), Andreas Wellinger (44th) and Pius Paschke (50th) will also be there on Tuesday.
