CoV in ski areas: locking is not an issue
tourism
The number of CoV infections in some of Salzburg’s tourist destinations is high again. For the time being, tourism officials are not thinking of more far-reaching consequences. You stick to the season, coronavirus rules are checked, it is said from Obertauern (Pongau / Lungau).
In Pongau in particular, the number of new coronavirus infections increased sharply over the New Year’s Eve weekend: Compared to December 30, the number of active cases in the district rose by 544 to 765 national statistics 863.7 – the highest value nationwide. In addition, the Omikron variant is spreading more and more – with 875 confirmed cases across the country (as of Monday, 10.30 a.m.).
But Mario Siedler, Tourism Director in Obertauern wants to keep it open: Compliance with the mask requirement, curfew or the hygiene rules – more control is not possible, he emphasizes: “In this respect, locking up would be completely incomprehensible for everyone in the industry.”
Black sheep cannot be prevented
The fact that, despite all the controls and regulations, individual black sheep cannot be prevented is in the nature of things, continues Siedler: “It is always difficult to comply with these controls as they should be with this unbelievable confusion of regulations. In addition, there are also many guests who do not want that and are no longer interested. Guests who want a normal life and peace. If you don’t watch around the clock that the regulations are being followed, mistakes will happen. But everyone is working very hard to keep everything to the best of their knowledge and belief. “
LH office: strict police controls
From the office of Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP), who is responsible for tourism, intensive talks have been held with tourism officials in the ski areas over the past few days and continued strong controls by the police.
Especially for Obertauern there was a “ruffle” from Haslauer at the end of December – with the request to comply with the CoV requirements – more on this in party: “Rüffel” for Obertauern (salzburg.ORF.at; 29.12.2021).
