3,319 new corona infections on Monday in Austria
The significantly more infectious Omikron variant is spreading further in Austria and causing the number of cases to continue to rise. On Monday, the ministries reported 3,319 new infections – with significantly lower test numbers – the seven-day incidence rose to 254.4 per 100,000 inhabitants. There were already 34,330 confirmed active cases across Austria. Seven other fatalities were also reported in the past 24 hours.

320 corona patients in intensive care units
At the beginning of the week, 320 seriously ill patients were treated in intensive care units, five fewer than on Sunday. In the past week, the number of those infected in intensive care had fallen by 63. A total of 1,017 Covid patients were again in the domestic hospitals on Monday – only on Sunday there were fewer than 1,000 with 973. Since then, 44 more infected people have been admitted. The last three-digit number of patients was 968 on October 21.

Less German tests on public holidays
On Monday it became clear again that in Austria there is significantly less testing and evaluation on weekends and public holidays. The actual number of cases is likely to be significantly higher. In the last 24 hours, only 194,889 meaningful PCR tests were evaluated, of which 1.7 percent were positive in fields. For comparison: an average of 550,552 PCR tests were analyzed daily in the last week, the positive rate averaged 0.6 percent.

Seven studies since Sunday
Nevertheless, the 3,319 new infections were above the average for the last seven days; 3,247 new cases were registered here every day. Seven authorities have been registered since Sunday, the seven-day average was 15.6 a day. In the past week, 109 people died as a result of an infection. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 13,759 deaths in Austria since the outbreak. 154 people per 100,000 inhabitants have already died of or with Covid-19.
