Ice hockey: Salzburg extends series in rump round
Salzburg struggled again against their feared opponent from Bruneck and only won overtime thanks to the goal from captain Thomas Raffl (62nd). Against the Val Pusteria, the “Bulls” had their last defeat so far on December 3rd with a 3: 4 at home.
With the clear success against the 99ers, the VSV scored their third win in the series since the 1: 9 against the KAC. The derby revenge is scheduled for Tuesday in Villach. In Graz, Renars Krastenbergs scored twice for the more efficient Villachers in the final third, while Mike Zalewski scored two goals on the opposite side. The Grazers not only missed a new club record of nine wins in a row, but also practically passed the VSV in seventh place in the table.
The matches KAC against Linz and Ljubljana against Bozen were canceled on Saturday. Dornbirn Innsbruck and Znojmo – Fehervar followed at short notice on Sunday. As usual, the league did not disclose any details beyond the medical precautions listed. The clubs also did not publish any information such as confirmed Covid cases.
League break as a possible option
Only Die Black Wings Linz states that their game against the Vienna Capitals on Tuesday is also uncertain. Whether the scheduled round can be played in full seems questionable due to the fact that at least four teams are currently affected.
A short break for the entire league should also be an option in the near future. Replacement dates for the canceled games are not yet mandatory, but when they do not have to be played. In any case, at the beginning of the week, one would consult with all clubs about how to proceed, the league said on request.
