For decades, 58-year-old Stepan Nikolaevich Furman was the head of an arm of the Russian mafia in the Murmansk region, inside the Arctic Circle. He was arrested, sent from jail, and set himself, at least since August 28, 2019, in Lisbon – where he lived for two years with his wife. The extortion specialist, elected ‘thief in law’, was caught by the PJ’s National Counterterrorism Unit on June 20, 2021.
