At the end of Slovenia’s EU presidency, Prime Minister Janša considers it a success
STA, 31 December 2021 – As Slovenia’s EU presidency draws to a close, Prime Minister Janez Jansa said on Friday that he believes the six-month period is a success. The project was both a big challenge and a huge opportunity, and many important steps have been taken, he said.
The approaching year was special, as Slovenia celebrated 30 years of independence and was at the helm of the EU Council for the second time since joining the bloc, the prime minister said.
The presidency was primarily an opportunity for the country to show itself and others that it has “ideas, knowledge and ambitions to actively contribute to shaping the present and future of Europe,” he said. in an address published by the Slovenian Presidency on its website.
“We note that we took this opportunity. The presidency project was a success,” he said, adding that despite Covid-19, most of the planned events, including those at the highest level, took place in person. “The organization of the events was at a high level, and the guests left Slovenia with a positive impression,” he added.
Janša emphasized that many important steps had been taken during the Slovenian Presidency. “The priorities we set at the beginning of the presidency have proved to be well thought out, and at the same time we have had to respond to a number of unforeseen crisis situations,” he said.
The Prime Minister further noted that the presidency was a team project. “We have proven that together we can do it,” he told his colleagues and thanked everyone for their efforts.
“Let your pride and confidence in the successful completion of the project be a guide for the further development of our homeland and for Slovenia’s sovereign position in the European Union and the world,” he said.
Slovenia is concluding its second EU presidency today, and France will take over tomorrow, in the new year.
