Internet at 6.15 euros a month starts today
The social Internet tariff, with a value of 6.15 euros (VAT included) and aimed at low-income consumers, enters into force today, according to the Government’s estimation that it covers “780 thousand potentials”.
For “only” 6.15 euros per month, customers can enjoy 12 Mbps downloads and a minimum upload speed of 2 Mbps, with a monthly bandwidth of 15 GB.
Social Internet Tariff in effect this year
Portugal is one of the countries of the European Union that offers the best infrastructure for Internet access. However, according to some organizations, the prices are high. As already happens in the energy segment, where there is a social tariff, there is also no communications segment, this will happen.
The new social internet tariff aims to provide broadband Internet access services, fixed or mobile, and its main objective is to promote digital inclusion through the possibility of access to a minimum set of digital-based services typified in the European directive 2018 / 1972 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 11 December 2018, which advises the European Code of Electronic Communications (CECE).
The tariff offers a set of 11 services, which include e-mail, search engines (which allow and consult all types of information), newspapers and news on the Internet and buy or order goods and services online.
The social internet tariff "effective between January 1 and December 31, 2022", according to the ordinance.
To access the rate, a request must be made with the operator, being the only person who qualifies for eligibility. Consumers to whom the tariff is not automatically applied may apply for the respective respectability to one of the electronic communications operators, and may attach documents proving that they are eligible.
