The second coronavirus that lives with us now, without exception, has turned everyone’s life on this planet, and experts say it will be with us for a while. But have we become accustomed to this ambiguous state, or are we constantly oppressed? At all: how do Hungarians really feel, are we happy?
The latest news, in chronological order HERE!
What is happiness? Happiness has been researched by many and in many ways throughout the history of human culture, and a number of more breathtaking scientific studies have appeared on it. Psychology also considers it important to map and analyze what makes an individual happy, what are the spiritual and environmental effects that make him or her feel good and satisfied. Happiness is the most subjective thing in the world. Everyone can tell for themselves how he is with himself, with the world, and with the relationship between the two, how we are in this world. Yet it seems possible to research because there are similarities.
Towards the end of an ambiguous year like this year, we were also curious about how Hungarians feel, what influences most whether they are happy. Now, we primarily mean a general level of satisfaction with the concept of Happiness Test running on the side of the money center for weeks with our questions we tried to cover all segments of an average life: work, private life, relationship to public life. The results are quite staggering, but let’s start at the beginning
In general, how happy are you?
We asked our questions in an order of magnitude of 1 to 10, where each means no at all and 10 means maximum. The very first question was about how happy you are. The result is quite surprising: almost a quarter of our respondents rated their overall happiness level at 8, 15.3 percent at 7, and 12.1 percent at 9. Subsequent responses then further nuance the picture, but overall, more than half of the respondents, 56.8 percent, rate their own happiness at a level of 7 or higher.
As you can see in the figure, the younger someone is, the happier it is, and the overall score is 6.33 points. In terms of occupation, the best entrepreneurs and expectant mothers feel their lives, the least are retirees, the unemployed and public workers. But it also turns out that married people are also more likely to feel good about their skin than singles, the more children someone has, the more likely they are to mark higher values from the answers to the above question.
The map clearly shows that the happiest county is Veszprém, followed by Pest and Vas. Only in the 7th place, on an average scale of 10, did the residents of the capital give their happiness 6.33 points, the same as those living in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Hajdú-Bihar County. The most unhappy were the people of Heves County.
How satisfied are you with your health?
In the middle of the fourth wave of a pandemic, the question arises: how satisfied are you with your current state. Overall, the 8 was won here as well, but the 7 and 9 were also excellent. However, the average was 6.57 on a 10-point scale.
Most people under the age of 25 feel healthy, they rated their condition at an average of 7.74, over the age of 64 the figure is only 6.18. Those who have spent a lot of time studying for a PhD will feel the healthiest, while those who complete primary school would give an average of 5.67 points to their health. We also examined it by occupation: here it turned out that the students are the healthiest, obviously because they are the youngest, they are followed by the entrepreneurs, then the people in Gyesen, the civil servants and the employees. The line is closed to retirees, the unemployed and civil servants.
How would you assess your own financial situation and financial security?
As we know, in the first waves of the coronavirus epidemic, many lost their jobs at the time of the closures, and the financial security of many families was enormous. Our respondents gave our average question on their financial stability an average of 6.24.
People under the age of 25 feel financially secure the most, and the elderly over the age of 64 feel the least, and it turns out that it is worth learning, education helps a lot in our financial security. What was a very surprising result on this issue was the location according to the place of residence: it turns out that Veszprém counties live according to their best counties, they are followed by Vas and then Pest county respondents, and only a fourth are from the capital. The often mentioned prosperity of Győr-Moson-Sopron County was only enough for the 6th place. It means that
the average earnings surveys, which show that people live best in the capital and in our westernmost county, do not accurately reflect their sense of financial security.
Heves, Nógrád and Békés counties graduated in the last place. It is also worth looking at how the family members responded to this question: on average, those with three children gave themselves an average of 6.37 points, those with no children had a score of 6.3, those without a child had a score of 6.19, and those without a child had a score of 6.18. only 5.93 are those who have 4 or more children. This is not to be surprised, as the current government’s family policy best supports the 3-child family model for depopulation: they can take advantage of a number of tax breaks.
How satisfied are you with the quality of your social relationships: relationships, family, friends, co-workers?
Happiness for many depends heavily on whether they live in a social relationship and what the quality of that relationship is. But on this issue, we were curious about the general relationship of those who completed it with those around them. The average is 6.64 and there is no difference between men and women.
According to educational attainment, the usual order developed, the more educated, the more satisfied, and according to their relationships, the married gave to the actually someone, the least to the single. In terms of the number of children, large families “won”, those without children rated their situation at an average of 6.15 points.
How much can you express and realize yourself in everyday life?
This question was mostly about the quality of our daily activities, be it career, family, hobbies. In terms of total score, this received a low rating compared to the other questions with an average of 6.3.
In their view, men are somewhat more successful in this field than women, but entrepreneurs are the ones who drive high: they gave themselves an average of 7.26 points. But surprisingly, retirees are in third place, which means older people can now find themselves and, even after decades of work, find a useful occupation that fills their days. The last place is understandably done by the unemployed.
In county breakdown, Veszprém, Somogy and Vas counties took the lead with 6.83, 6.69 and 6.68 points, and Békés, Baranya and Heves became the last three in this respect.
How satisfied are you with your job, your profession?
Participants in the Money Center survey gave themselves an average of 6.5 points for this question, with men scoring 0.2 points more than women.
In this question, it is worth examining the educational attainment of the respondents: in terms of job satisfaction, there is a marked difference between those who have only completed their primary education (5.92) and those who have completed the number of years spent studying (7.66). But perhaps even more eloquent are the types of occupations that value their own work the most: entrepreneurs, of course, gave themselves an average of 7.75 points, while the unemployed, by definition, gave only 3.43 points.
If we examine it by place of residence, the inhabitants of the counties of western Hungary were again the most satisfied: Vas, Veszprém and Somogy were in the lead, while Békés, Bács-Kiskun and Nógrád were in the last three places, with a point between the first and the last. .
How frustrating is domestic politics and public discourse?
This was the only question in which the majority of respondents, 28 percent, marked 10, so to a maximum, the second was 9, (12.3%), and the third was 8 (11.7%). . The mean of all responses was 6.8. This means that Hungarians are frustrated by the tone of politics and public discourse, especially those over 64 years of age.
If we look at the activities, it turns out that the most favorable retirees are those who outrage public events, followed by civil servants and public workers with the same evaluation. Those who are in Gyesen and the students are the least interested in what is going on in the public discourse. In terms of county breakdown, the inhabitants of Heves county and the capital are the most frustrated, and the least are those living in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county.
How much does the coronavirus epidemic make its mark on your everyday mood?
And, of course, it is not possible to circumvent the epidemic that is just unfolding, but it is true that, even if you do not feel the effects directly, there is the coronavirus: in our work, in our free time, in our relationships, in our access to health care, and in our general mood, frustrations, fears.
It is clear that the mood of the elderly is most affected by the epidemic, not in vain, they are still the most vulnerable age group. Those with a bachelor’s degree are the best in terms of education, and those with an academic degree are the least. According to the occupation, the mood of public workers is the best because of the virus, and the worst is that of students.
