On the night of New Year’s Eve, several communities remained without electricity. It wasn’t until most of them were asleep that it became hell again.
There was a large-scale power failure in Salzburg on the night of December 31st. The northern communities of Flachgau Elixhausen, Mattsee, Obertrum, Henndorf, Seekirchen and Eugendorf were affected.
“The power outage lasts from 11:08 p.m. to 2:21 p.m. However, there were always individual parts of the affected communities, not all declared at the same time,” Salzburg AG press spokeswoman Saskia Heller told “Salzburg24”.
Follow-up deployment of the fire brigade
The Elixhausen fire brigade quickly got to the bottom of the cause. At 11:20 p.m., a power pole caught fire. When the 26 alerted firefighters arrived, no more fire could be detected. Only the torn power cable was used.
The subsequent power failure resulted in the fire brigade being alerted to a triggered tape reporting system which had a malfunction due to the power failure. Meanwhile, ten technicians from Salzburg AG were busy fixing the interruption.
