Dear Avignonnaises, dear Avignonnais, Dear Montfavétaines, dear Montfavétains,

In 2021, for the second year in a row, our lives have been turned upside down by the health crisis. If no one will have been spared, my thoughts go first to the most fragile and isolated among us who experience this context more violently than others. They then go to all hospital staff, who continue to have to deal with epidemic peaks as fatigue and weariness make themselves felt. As in 2020, together, we supported each other, we resisted, so we were stronger. With the elected officials who accompany me, we acted in solidarity, empathy and responsibility, while continuing to transform our beautiful city.

More than 200,000 people have been vaccinated in the Barbière and Montfavet centers. The distribution of Solidarity Baskets has been perpetuated for the benefit of 400 of us, donations of essential products for students in need and for the most vulnerable have been studied and diversified with the great adventure of “solidarity vegetables”. As of the arrival of the beautiful days, free animations were organized in our parks and gardens to find the smiles on the faces of our seniors and our children. Our collective mobilization in support of the world of Culture allowed us last July, to our great joy, to reconnect with our festival. Finally, our support for local traders and entrepreneurs has not failed … We can be proud of all these actions imagined in response to this uncertain, unprecedented and destabilizing period. They bear witness to the more human and more fraternal city that we are building every day. More than ever, in 2022, we will need hope and a happy outlook. This is the reason why we continue to carry, strong and determined, our ambition for Avignon!

In all neighborhoods, we will continue the dynamic transformation of our city through the launch of new, even more ambitious projects, such as the construction of the ideal school in the Joly Jean eco-district or even the complete renovation of the Jean Clément swimming pool. We are increasing the federating and popular actions thanks to the initiatives created around the projects “Avignon, Land of games 2024” and “Avignon, Land of cultures 2025”. We will amplify our collective awareness for our planet by concretizing our daily mobilization through the local climate plan that we will adopt in February. As you can see, despite the adversity of the period we are going through, my commitment, my determination and my energy for Avignon, for each and every one of you, are intact. I am convinced that it is by pushing back our fears of uncertain tomorrow and by refusing the gloom imposed on us by this repeated health crisis that we will find together, here in Avignon, the paths of happy days, for ourselves and above all, for our children.

Dear Avignonnaises, dear Avignonnais, Dear Montfavétaines, dear Montfavétains,

I wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year 2022.

Stay safe and take care of yourself and your loved ones!

Cecile Hellé

Mayor of Avignon
