How Now United chose Portugal to record the new music video – which you can see now
The band was in Lisbon in October to record the video for “Jump”, which serves to present the new virtual avatar Alta B.
The more than seven million followers are deceitful. But when tickets for the two shows scheduled for Portugal, in 2022, were discovered for sale, the capacity – which sold out in hours – dispelled any doubts about the worldwide and also national phenomenon that are Now United.
The band that will pass by Altice Arena on April 1st and by Super Bock Arena the following day, will not make their debut in Portugal. They were received in euphoria this year, when they traveled to Lisbon to visit the Golden Globes stage. However, it was not a single task that he had in hand during that visit.
When the 18 members of the band packed their bags, they prepared for a full week in Portugal: our country was the chosen place to record the music video of the theme that they believe could be one of their biggest hits, “Jump”. And this is not a unique novelty.
The video recorded in Lisbon will also be the first appearance of Alta B, the virtual avatar that will be Now United’s new major collaboration, in this case with Swedish artist Vendela Palmgren, a flesh-and-blood singer behind the computerized image.
“Alta B is a teenage avatar, from another planet, where he was never able to express himself the way he wanted to. Always a different pulse”, explains the band about the character. “That’s why she ran away from home and discovered Earth (…) through music and dance, Alta B will explore our planet and learn about all the amazing qualities it has to offer.”
In their luggage, the band brought the concept created for the music video that wants to follow the theme created by DJ and producer R3hab. It would be recorded at night, in a place full of cargo containers. Lisbon was the ideal place to do it, not least because of the size of the band in Brazil and, of course, the connection between this country and Portugal.
The recordings took place at the ALCONT container terminal, in Bobadela, but the video, released this Friday, December 30, also includes images captured on Avenida da Liberdade and on the 25 de Abril bridge. In the recording were several filming teams and Portuguese productions.
A world-renowned phenomenon, Now United is the brainchild of critic Simon Fuller, a man with an enviable record in the world of pop music and television.
For years, she managed a career for the Spice Girls, but also with artists such as Amy Winehouse, S Club 7, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood; and celebrities like David and Victoria Beckham, Lewis Hamilton or Andy Murray. It was also from his mind that a huge television hit came out, the Idol contest.
The band formed in 2017 originated in a gigantic global casting, precisely with the aim of creating a band with members from various countries and regions. A team traveled the world for a year and a half until they managed to find the perfect group, which includes, for example, Any Gabrielly – a 19-year-old Brazilian who is at Now United from the startup – but also the Filipino Bailey May, the South Korean Heyoon Jeong, Japanese Hina Woshihara, Finnish Joalin Loukamaa or Canadian Josh Beauchamp.
