It wasn’t a furious reaction after the bitter derby defeat against HC Pustertal. But the HCB Südtirol Alperia has done its duty at the penultimate Dornbirn. And some “problem children” in the last few weeks were able to regain their confidence.

Against the team of the Bolzano master maker Kai Suikkanen, the foxes tremble until the end, but in the end they won 4: 2. The difference was made by the better utilization of chances and the individual class, and so it was enough to win even without a brilliant performance. HC Pustertal managed a coup on St. Stephen’s Day: At home they won 3-2 against top team Olimpija Ljubljana.
At HCB, Kevin Boyle was preferred to Justin Fazio in goal. The US boy had come under repeated criticism in recent weeks because of his susceptibility to errors, Bozen boss Dieter Knoll even said that “Boyle is a problem”. Most recently, the goalkeeper with NHL experience sat two games in a row on the bench, he was allowed to play again against Dornbirn and delivered a flawless performance. Especially in the undernumbered games, he was a sure source of support, his catch quota of 93.5 percent is impressive.
Speaking of the underpowered game: That too has been a problem child at HC Bozen in the last few weeks. In the league, the Greg Ireland troops have the second weakest score. Against Dornbirn, however, it worked flawlessly: In a total of 8 minutes, there were no goals against. It should also be said that the Bulldogs are not necessarily a benchmark, as they have the second weakest power play in the league. Still, it’s good for self-confidence.
The key scenes
2 blasts | Turbulent start: First Mathew Maione is full on it and sinks the puck in the goal (4th), but in the same minute Davis Vandane also hits with a hammer to make it 1: 1 (4th). Then there’s an interesting back and forth. |
Coolbox calls | A weak middle third of Bolzano – also because of a total of four two-minute penalties. The second weakest power play in the league from Dornbirn cannot score anything against the second weakest penalty killing from Bozen. |
Speed up | The HCB increases the number of strokes in the final third. The result: Domenic Alberga directs a shot into the net (44th), then captain Anton Bernard in excess and after an ingenious Daniel Ciampini pass the 3: 1 (54th). |
Tremble | At the end it will be exciting again, as Colton Beck shortened to 2: 3 after a blueliner (58th). But Angelo Miceli makes everything clear via Empty Net (60th). |
The Füchse will continue on Tuesday with the home game against HC Innsbruck. Puck in the ice wave is at 7.45 p.m. The HC Pustertal is required – also on Tuesday – from 7.15 p.m. in Dornbirn.
