Pisa, the mayor: “Target quota 100 thousand residents, decisive push from the funds of the NRP”
Accounts: we have many projects ready to be financed Public interventions to attract families and young couples
PISA. The scenario / goal is to bring the city back to 100,000 residents. “And the actions contained in the planned budget approved on Wednesday evening go further in this direction,” says the mayor Michele Conti presenting the programs for the new year on the occasion of the traditional meeting at Palazzo Gambacorti for the exchange of Christmas greetings.
In addition to the already planned construction sites (from those of Binario 14 in the station area at Pinqua, from the urban park of Cisanello to the recovery of the former military district in San Martino), the mayor expects a decisive boost from the funds of the Pnrr. But with the accompanying controversy: “For the quantity of economic resources available, Tuscany is only twelfth in Italy, without counting the gap in accounting that penalizes the coast compared to the central Florentine area”, underlines the mayor.
A further boost comes from the recent ranking of the Sole 24 Ore on the quality of life, with Pisa in 22nd place nationally, up 18 positions. Another controversial note: “When the ranking is negative, the chief town is blamed, when it is positive it is highlighted that it is on a provincial basis – says the mayor -. And in any case from the main indicators, starting with health care, it is clear that the weight of the capital is decisive. Improvement of the environment and welfare, increasingly efficient services, demographics, society and health: the ranking certifies that we are on the right path to make Pisa more European and more attractive ».
But above all, development and growth must be linked to the great opportunity of the NRP. “Pisa has ready-made projects and requests already made to intercept the available funds,” says Conti. There are five possible funding areas: construction of structures to be allocated to nursery schools and preschools; sports infrastructure in schools; urban regeneration and housing projects; pilot projects for the cultural, social and economic regeneration of villages at risk of abandonment and abandoned; Houses of Health.
“Each announcement – reiterates the mayor – has different deadlines, but we are ready to present the list of interventions to build the Pisa of the future”. The framework of which is represented, from an urbanistic point of view, by the Pisa-Cascina inter-municipal structural plan. “It is a fundamental tool to achieve the goal of 100 thousand inhabitants”, continues Conti, drawing up a list “of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance to make the city more liveable, with great attention to public spaces and public parks”.
«In 2022 – he says – we will have returned to the city the facade of Palazzo Pretorio with the clock tower: the works will start shortly (750 thousand euros). A symbol that we wanted to give back to the Pisans. But there are also the works that have already started in the park in via Bixio and those that will start in piazza della Stazione and viale Gramsci. 2022 will also be the year of urban redevelopment financed with the Pinqua project (49 million) in the districts of Pisanova, Gagno and via Rindi-via Piave. Plus the many works to increase the network of cycle paths ».
«We are sure – is the conclusion of Conti – that all these public interventions can be multipliers of private resources destined to the recovery of buildings to be made habitable and usable by young couples and families. For example, we approved the recovery plan of the former military district in San Martino, just as we found a positive solution for the former convent of Santa Croce in Fossabanda, assigned to the Sant’Anna School. Pieces of the city that can be reborn ».
