Rome, freezing of evictions during the Christmas period. Confedilizia: «Illegitimate» – Corriere.it
The suspension until January 7, pending a table with the prefecture and the municipal councilor for social policies
Blocking of evictions in Rome during the Christmas period: the councilor for housing and heritage policies of Rome, Tobia Zevi, announced the decision. He explains: “Following various discussions with the prefecture, with Unep and with trade unions and housing movements, it was decided to extend the suspension until January 7”.
The “usual blocking of evictions during the Christmas period is a temporary solution, but necessary to respond to an immediate social hardship in the city” clarifies the commissioner. The suspension “will allow the parties to open a discussion table as soon as possible, which will be attended by councilor Zevi, the prefect of Rome, Matteo Piantedosi, Unep, councilor for social policies Barbara Funari, trade unions and associations more representative of the owners and tenants. The goal is to find a mediation between the different positions, establishing balance points together to protect, in compliance with the rules, the most fragile parts of the rental relationship “.
The moratorium, adds Zevi, will allow the administration and the prefecture to think about the measures to be implemented. In this period of economic and social difficulties, largely attributable to the pandemic crisis, the priorities and conditions of the citizens involved is a need that can no longer be postponed. The comparison will serve this ». And the contrary voice of the president of Confedilizia, Giorgio Spaziani Testa, rises: “Minister Lamorgese, you know – unlike Councilor Tobia Zevi – that this suspension is illegitimate, and it becomes offensive when it follows a two-year block by law. We heard his voice on the statements of the prefect of Milan. We would like to hear it also for Rome ».
