the main suspect in Georges’ murder remains in custody
The investigation chamber of Rouen (Seine-Maritime) finally found fault with the judge of freedoms and detention by reversing its decision on Thursday to allow the release of the main suspect in the murder of a 16-year-old teenager on June 13 in Sotteville-Lès-Rouen (Seine-Maritime).
“It’s a relaxation“reacts Martha, George’s older sister who was afraid to see the main suspect in her brother’s murder. be released after six months in pre-trial detention.
The same morning, the 21-year-old young woman went to the Rouen courthouse with about fifty relatives, friends of her brother and her family for a request “Justice“.
For her it would have been inconceivable that the main suspect in the murder of his little brother is “free and alive like us when we don’t know when his trial will be“.
A risk of preventing “the manifestation of the truth”
For the lawyer for the civil parties, Maître Jérémy Kalfon, the release of the suspect, if it had taken place, could have represented a risk. “If he sort, the danger is that he can coordinate with the many people which remain to be identified in this case and to be indicted. Given the links that may exist in this neighborhood, it is possible that this release could lasting compromise of the manifestation of the truth in this matter. It is very important that there cannot be any possibility of concertation, no possibility of modifying the evidence, of setting up a common version.“insists the lawyer.
For his part, the lawyer of the young man implicated points “a regrettable decision“. Master Fabien Picchiottino says”hope the morning protest did not put pressure on justice and that this did not play in the decision of the investigating chamber“. According to him, the judge of freedoms and detention was right to want to release his young minor client.
See you in six months
The accused teenager is suspected of having stabbed Georges deadly on June 13, 2021 during a fight between rival gangs in Sotteville-Lès-Rouen (Seine-Maritime). He is in pre-trial detention and will therefore remain there for another six months. But a minor can only stay a maximum of 12 months in pre-trial detention. Justice will therefore have to rule again on this subject to determine if the young man could possibly be released under judicial supervision or if he will be placed in an educational center.
In the meantime, the investigation is still ongoing.
