Push the most important questions
The country’s coordinator, Dr. Rainer Pusch spoke about the application, effectiveness and tolerability of the new vaccine in an interview with the State Media Center (LMZ).
LMZ: What is this vaccine about?
Novavax is a protein-based vaccine. A ready-made antigen is injected, which creates an incentive for the immune system to produce the appropriate antibodies. The protein molecules used were produced naturally.
LMZ: How is Novavax used and what about tolerability:
If two vaccinations are carried out 28 days apart, Novavax was approved 18 years ago. For tolerability, only studies can currently be used in which contact vaccination reactions have been observed. Due to the small number of participants, it is currently not possible to make any statements about the general rare side effects of corona vaccines.
LMZ: Is Novavax better than the existing vaccines and should one wait for it?
No, a higher effectiveness is currently not foreseeable. There is no medical reason to wait for Novavax. Anyone who wants to be vaccinated should in any case already take advantage of one of the vaccines that have been used billions of times and that have been tried and tested. Novavax will be an additional option, nothing more, nothing less.
