Museum Saalfelden: New book for Himalaya fans
CULTURE
Extreme mountaineer Peter Wörgötter presented his new autobiography live Tuesday evening in Mitterpinzgau – written together with his granddaughter Lena Öller. The Salzburg resident reads from his new mountain bible in the museum of his hometown Saalfelden – at Ritzen Castle.
The reading begins this evening at 6:00 p.m. – from the work: “Five times 8000” – just published by the Salzburg publisher Pustet.
From the Steinalm to Lhotse and Manaslu
Pinzgauer also gives oral testimony in front of an audience of his life, tells of his mountain tours, expeditions and of people he met in many corners of the world. Anyone who knows him or who has met him knows: You can laugh a lot on such an evening.
Peter Wörgötter will be 80 this year. He had a sporting world premiere 40 years ago. Together with the Tyrolean Sepp Millinger, he went on touring skis from an eight-thousander into the valley in May 1981 – from the 8,163-meter-high Manaslu in western Nepal.
Brothers couple at great heights
Together with his older brother Wastl, Wörgötter had climbed the 8,511 meter high Lhotse, the largest and most beautiful neighbor of Mount Everest, four years before the adventure on Manaslu. The 1977 war was the first overall second summit success on this giant.
The Salzburg man then stood on a total of five eight-thousanders over the decades, which is where the title of the new book emerges.
Start of reading and presentation at Ritzen Castle: 6 p.m.
Listen to the radio broadcast
In November 2021, the man from Saalfelden was a guest in the ORF Radio Salzburg cafe. You can listen to this program with host and presenter Christopher Pöhl here …
