British ski vacationers landed in droves in Tyrol and Salzburg
How badly the coronavirus mutant Omikron is already raging in Great Britain is shown by the fact that London has declared a disaster. Previously, the number of infections had risen 67 percent within a week.
Accordingly, it is carefully observed where the British go on skiing holidays. Austria remains a popular travel destination, as was shown at the weekend. Because even before the stricter entry controls came into force in Austria yesterday, Saturday and Sunday were busy at the airports in Innsbruck and Salzburg, where British ski tourists came in droves. Seven machines from London alone landed in Innsbruck on Sunday, one each from Luton, Manchester and Bristol.
According to airport spokesman Alexander Klaus, it was “almost identical” in Salzburg. Aircraft from London, Luton, Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Leeds landed almost every half hour on Saturday and Sunday. According to the airport spokesman, many ski tourists, but also other travelers, have sat in the planes due to the season.
Hardly any British in Upper Austria
“Those holidaymakers from Great Britain who arrived in Tyrol and Salzburg before the new entry regulations were introduced will also stay in these federal states. Only a few holidaymakers from Great Britain have traveled to Upper Austria.” This would be shown by the feedback from the domestic holiday destinations, says Tourism Councilor Markus Achleitner (VP) when asked by OÖN.
Salzburg airport spokesman Klaus emphasized that when the new entry rules became known, these had also been applied. As of yesterday, valid 2G proof and an additional negative PCR test proof are required for entry from all countries. (eda)
