10 years of Presidency, 10 years of development for AS Monaco
From Ligue 2 to the last four of the Champions League, through the strengthening of training and the development of infrastructure, AS Monaco has evolved a lot since the arrival of Dmitry Rybolovlev in December 2011. tenth anniversary of his Presidency , take a look back at the highlights of these first ten years.
On December 23, 2011, when Dmitry Rybolovlev became the majority shareholder and President of AS Monaco, the Club du Rocher was 19e of Ligue 2. Relegated the previous season, the Red and Whites are struggling. But after maintaining acquired thanks to a successful winter transfer window (Nabil Dirar, Danijel Subasic), they returned to the elite in the summer of 2013 before signing a first podium the following year.
By returning to the group stage of the Champions League in 2014 for the first time since 2005, AS Monaco is once again a stronghold of French football, less than three years after the arrival of Dmitry Rybolovlev. This return to the forefront is confirmed in the following seasons, the Red and White compiling six podiums in eight seasons.
Stars at the Louis-II stadium
The instinct of the scorer of Radamel Falcao, the return of Eric Abidal, the rigor of Ricardo Carvalho, the vista of Joao Moutinho, the technique of James Rodriguez, the class of Dimitar Berbatov … In a few years, many internationally renowned players evolved on the lawn of the Stade Louis-II, to put the Club in the spotlight.
The apotheosis comes during the 2016-17 season. This team, a clever mix of executive players like Falcao, Moutinho, Germain, Glik, Subasic and a fiery youth represented by Mbappé, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Lemar, Sidibé, Mendy… led by Leonardo Jardim, makes people tremble Europe.
These champions who have made their mark on their time in the Principality allow AS Monaco to perpetuate its aura on the Old Continent.
An 8e champion title and two European epics
Less than four years after returning to the first division, AS Monaco lifted the 8e title of Champion of France in its history on May 18, 2017, by maddening the counters (95 points, 107 goals scored). The same year, the Monegasques finished the last four of the Champions League after knocking down Tottenham, Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund.
Two years earlier, still in C1, the Monegasques had surprised Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and eliminated the Londoners at the Stade Louis-II.
In AS Monaco’s DNA, Europe has been a common thread over the past decade: nearly a third of the 203 matches played by the Club on the continental stage have been played in recent years.
New infrastructures
Attentive to the overall development of the game, AS Monaco has always made the development of its infrastructure one of its battle horses. Since last summer, the professional group has benefited from a state-of-the-art Performance Center, the whole of which will be delivered next summer.
This project is the fruit of the President’s vision, who, upon his return to Ligue 1 in 2013, wished to provide the club with a new tool and to build solid foundations for the long term.
The building located on the historic site of La Turbie houses essential tools designed for the very high level – data center, medical center, specialized equipment for recovery and re-athleticism, etc. – at the heart of a 7-storey workspace and of 12000m2.
Enough to allow the professional group to evolve on a daily basis in an environment entirely dedicated to performance.
Training more than ever at the heart of the project
As for the Academy, the change is also striking.
La Diagonale, the ensemble dedicated to training whose windows overlook the arches of the Stade Louis-II, became a reality in the fall of 2020. Now concentrated on a single site, young Monegasque apprentices benefit from all the resources necessary: technical, medical, catering, accommodation, education …
Like the victory in Gambardella obtained in 2016 with the 97-98 (Mbappé, Cardona, I. Diallo …), the Monegasque team continues to do well, as defined by Benoît Badiashile or Eliot Matazo who flourish today ‘hui within the pro group.
The many players trained at the club in recent years who are now playing in the best European leagues
and the quality of the sports supervision, the education provided as well as the infrastructures allow the Monegasque training center to be part of the “prestige” category, the highest appearing in the classification established by the French Football Federation.
A growing community
A cosmopolitan club in the image of the Principality of which it is an ambassador, the common AS Monaco of growing international notoriety, as recalled by the 19 million followers on social networks, a sign of the development of its brand.

This is also the meaning of the many actions organized at the local level, in favor of education or the practice of football, like the Club’s support for amateur football.
