Cia Toscana, meeting in Florence on the water emergency for agriculture
“The importance of the role of water resources in the Tuscan agricultural system” is the title of the seminar in the program on Tuesday 21 December (at 9 am) in Florence, in Via dei Pucci 1 – Palazzo Incontri (Sala Verde).
At the center of the meeting – organized by Cia Agricoltori Italiani della Toscana – the theme of water resources, highlighting that only 9% of Tuscan agriculture is irrigated. “To continue producing quality – underlines Luca Brunelli, president of Cia Toscana – it is necessary to aim for a total irrigation capacity, while it should be noted that at the regional level we have only a minimal part of irrigated surface. This is absolutely not enough – he specifies -; we cannot think of having agriculture in twenty years without a project that puts irrigation in the foreground: if we fail to irrigate our vineyards, olive groves and our hills, we will no longer have production. It is an important effort, today we must take advantage of the NRP where it is possible, but we must look beyond the current schemes. Planning an irrigation reality in Tuscany can no longer be postponed: the Region must take the responsibility of animating the table on the theme of water and of being the protagonist of the direction and of this project. Without water we will no longer have quality and competitive agriculture in our region ”.
