Coronablog – Demonstrations in Brussels and Genk against corona measures, declining figures, but the omikron variant is on the rise
At the head of the demonstration, just like last time, a number of firefighters resign. Some of them wear a fireman’s uniform, others only wear a T-shirt with a firefighter logo.
Spokesperson Sarkis Simonjan of Belgium United for Freedom has no problems with the vaccination against COVID-19, but with healthcare. “The CST also goes against our rights and freedoms,” he said on a content Wednesday. “Whoever has been vaccinated gets access to different places with the CST, but that is no guarantee of protection against infection.”
Belgium United for Freedom asks to be heard by the government and calls for a “civil debate”, where residents can voice their grievances and put their questions on the table.
“We understand that there is a pandemic and the enemy is the virus, but there must be a debate about how we fight that virus,” Simonjan at the start of the demonstration. “We have a number of ideas and proposals, but then they have to listen to us. As long as that doesn’t happen, we will continue to be on the street.”
Today there are also demonstrations in Antwerp, Genk and Ostend against the mandatory vaccination and the corona pass. Here attendance was limited.
