Russian House took part in a charity Christmas fair in Damascus – Society.
RABAT, December 17. / Corr. TASS Pervin Mamed-zade /. The charity Christmas market, organized by the Orthodox Church of Antioch, opened on Friday at the Exaltation of the Cross in the Syrian capital. The event is attended by the Russian House in Damascus and the Rodnik-Heritage Association of Compatriots, Director of the Russian House Nikolai Sukhov told TASS by telephone.
“The fair was opened by the bishop of the Orthodox Church of Antioch, Ibrahim Daud,” said Nikolai Sukhov. “At the beginning, the Russian House presented a performance by the Zabava children’s art ensemble, who performed several folk dances and ditties in costumes,” he said.
“On the days of the fair, visitors can buy handicrafts and arts and crafts, including jewelry, embroidery, wood and wickerwork, paintings, as well as agricultural products such as olive oil and pastries, monastery honey and wine,” continued Sukhov.
According to him, “the fund raised from the fair will be directed to the fund of Sunday schools of the Orthodox Church of the Patriarchate of Antioch in Damascus.”
“The first day was very active, the fair was attended by quite a lot of people, including parishioners of Orthodox churches, employees of international organizations, compatriots. And the fair will end on Sunday, December 19,” he summed up.
