MONEYVAL holds its 62nd plenary meeting
The Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (MONEYVAL) held its 62sd Plenary meeting in Strasbourg from December 15 to 17, 2021. This was the third MONEYVAL Plenary taking place in hybrid mode, with virtual participation of delegations.
The Director of Information Society and the Fight against Crime of the Council of Europe, Mr Jan Kleijssen, opened the meeting by underlining the essential role of MONEYVAL as a specialized monitoring body of the Council of Europe. Europe and as a key partner of the global network in the field of the fight against money laundering. and the fight against the financing of terrorism. Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Global Network Coordination Group Co-Chair Giles Thomson addressed the plenary meeting and outlined the current priorities of the FATF.
The Plenary re-elected Ms. Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz as Chair of the MONEYVAL Committee. Mr. Richard Walker and Ms. Astghik Karamanukyan were elected Vice-Presidents, Mr. Ladislav Majernik and Mr. Matis Maeker members of the Bureau.
The Plenary discussed and approved the mutual evaluation reports of Poland and Croatia, and the follow-up report of Cyprus. He held a strategic discussion on the progress made in the implementation of the MONEYVAL strategy for 2020-2022 and agreed to undertake a project on the horizontal analysis of the materiality of MONEYVAL jurisdictions. The Committee adopted the research report Typologies “Supervision of AML / CFT in times of crisis and difficult external factors” and launched the next research project on money laundering from drug trafficking with the use of cryptocurrency.
The Committee discussed Ukraine’s voluntary tax compliance program and urged Ukraine to implement MONEYVAL’s recommendations to mitigate the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing from the voluntary tax compliance program of Ukraine. Ukraine.
