Country calls for 2G-plus for British travelers
On Saturday alone, 29 aircraft will arrive at Salzburg Airport, 13 of them from Great Britain. The omicron variant of the coronavirus is currently spreading rapidly there. 79,000 British people quickly became infected within one day. Salzburg Airport is not worried about an early five at the moment: “It is difficult to say whether we have a stomachache with the story. There are legal regulations and they have to be complied with, there are entry regulations, ”says Alexander Klaus
Currently gold-plated cube 2.5 G rule
The entry regulations currently require a 2.5G rule for travelers from the UK. Entrants must therefore be vaccinated, recovered or PCR tested. According to the state of Salzburg, this must be sharpened to 2G-plus. Then guests from Great Britain would have to be vaccinated or recovered and additionally tested. This is necessary because “people who have been vaccinated could also bring the Omikron variant to Austria. That is why we are demanding a 2G-plus rule from the ministry in the entry ordinance, ”says Christian Stöckl, health officer (ÖVP). In addition, Salzburg has been in contact with the federal government for days.
In the winter tourist resorts, the joy of the start of the season predominates
France, on the other hand, tightened the entry rules for Great Britain on Thursday. “I hope that the federal government will issue a 2G-plus rule, especially for those countries where Omikron is so widespread. Then we can go into the season with a clear conscience, ”said Stöckl.
Glemmtal is expecting British guests
The Glemmtal is a popular holiday destination for many British people. While it is still quiet there on Thursday, around 100 guests from Great Britain will arrive at the weekend. The anticipation outweighs “that we can welcome guests to Saalbach-Hinterglemm. I would like to emphasize that ”, Mayor Alois Hasenauer (ÖVP).
Tourism experts praise the current security concept
“We have implemented a 2G regulation and I think that it is tight enough. We are not at all afraid of the guests that they bring us anything. The guests who come to us provide this evidence and we are left with reasons, ”says Wolfgang Breitfuß, Director of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Tourist Association.
The coming days will show whether the entry rule will be improved to 2G-plus. In any case, the tightening does not work out for the coming weekend of arrival.
