Stricter segregation rules because of Omikron – salzburg.ORF.at
As far as is known, the omicron variant leads to rather mild courses, but the rate of infection is particularly high. The new segregation regulations apply in all areas such as schools.
CoV case at school: entire class in quarantine
In the Salzburg schools, more than 80 percent of the children and adolescents are currently present in the classes. 21 school classes are currently closed nationwide. Last week there were about twice as many. There are currently no confirmed Omikron cases in schools. If an infection occurs in a class, the whole class has to be quarantined for two weeks. This affects vaccinated and unvaccinated students.
It has long been pointed out that the vaccination protects and helps, said the director of the Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium in Salzburg, Gerhard Klampfer. Now all of this is irrelevant when the whole class has to, criticized the director.
Free testing is not possible with Omikron
Anyone who has had contact with someone who is infected with the Omicron variant cannot test themselves during the two-week quarantine.
The gastronomy and hotel industry are also meeting the new requirements, strengthening the regulations from the Ministry of Health, said hotel manager Petra Nocker-Schwarzenbacher from St. Johann im Pongau. 90 percent of their employees in the hotel have been vaccinated three times or have an appointment for the third stitch. They also wear an FFP2 mask. “Nevertheless, one must assume that some workers will be absent in the coming winter season,” feared the hotel operator.
The more stringent rules are also a challenge for all companies. For many months, companies have been working with different teams to reduce contacts, said the President of the Federation of Industry, Peter Unterkofler.
CoV infection numbers are falling
The number of CoV infections in the state of Salzburg is decreasing. According to the state statistics, the seven-day incidence is 365. The districts with the highest values per inhabitant are still Tennengau and Pongau. In the hospital, too, the number of patients who have to be treated because of the coronavirus continues to decline. On Monday 170 people were still being treated, on Tuesday 155. 22 of them are in the intensive care unit. Five people have died from Covid infection in the past 24 hours.
