Portugal needs central agreements
The president of the Business Association of Portugal (AEP), Luís Miguel Ribeiro, considers that the country is at a stage in which the need for long-term political agreements and at the center of the political spectrum is evident, inducing stability and ensuring the structuring investments that serve as a mainstay of reproductive projects.
Critical of the way in which previous funds are being communicated and managed, namely the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR), Luís Miguel Ribeiro, in an interview with the newspaper Vivo, also recalls the importance of insisting on training for productivity.
“We said from the beginning that this way of building the PRR was a mistake: 2/3 for public projects, 1/3 for private ones. And with the example of mobilizing agendas, I believe the Government must have regretted it. I’m not saying that 100% should have support, but there were projects of high quality, which had the merit of doing what we’ve all advocated for years: putting the scientific and technological system, research centers and companies together to develop innovative projects” .
The president of the AEP said that “we already understand that Portugal will take longer to recover and restore pre-pandemic levels”, but “we must recognize the effort that the State made in terms of measures to support the capitalization of companies, which was very important “.
But the issue of human resources is obvious ”and the result above all of two factors:“ On the one hand, the demographic issue and then the central problem, which until we resolve it will cause damage: productivity. If it doesn’t go up, it won’t pay better to retain those we want to stay here”.
