Spanish chain rented cars in Portugal and sold them in Germany
The Spanish National Police recovered eight stolen cars, six of them in Portugal, which were in a trailer in the industrial area of Verin, on the road that connects that Spanish town to Chaves. The vehicles were destined for Germany, where they would be sold.
According to Spanish police, the investigation began when a car rental company reported the non-return of two vehicles.
The steps lead the agents to the industrial area of Verin, where they detected a trailer already with six Portuguese cars, some of them high-end, and which was there loading two more vehicles. Police seized two BMW 1 series, a 5 series, a Mercedes A200, a Volkswagen T-Roc and a Golf, a Seat Ateca and an Ibiza.
The truck’s driver confirmed that it was heading to Germany and the police quickly reached one of the network’s brains, a 39-year-old man who has a workshop and a car stand, which was used to dispose of stolen vehicles.
In Germany, other members of the group also have a stand, where they counterfeited and sold stolen vehicles.
The detainee was heard by the police and released, but investigations are continuing in Portugal and Germany to identify and locate other elements of the group.
