V.Čmilytė-Nielsen does not believe that the resignations of ministers would solve the problem of fertilizer transit
“It simply came to our notice then. And what’s going on right now is just like that. To actions that do not decide to deal with, but only complicate it. There are no people who are wrong, and those who say that resignations will solve the problems are, in my opinion, also wrong, “the head of the parliament said in a Facebook post.
On Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis sent a written statement of resignation to the Prime Minister Ingrida Šimte regarding the continued transit of Belaruskalij fertilizers through Lithuania. The Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis has also announced his intention to withdraw, but has not yet submitted an official resignation statement.
Due to the situation, the Seimas opposition called on the ministers to resign this week.
“Has such a damage to Lithuania’s reputation really been done? Or maybe it would be done if it was a parody of how we react to a difficult situation? By turning or helping to retreat or change direction, ”said the Speaker of the Seimas.
According to her, this winter should become a “turning point in a pandemic”, and the migration crisis is also “just subsided”.
“I understand the emotion, the sense of responsibility, the cartel. All this could serve optimal solutions, not hot reactions. In chess, there are such difficult situations where there are no good solutions and you have to choose the least evil. We want us to really choose the smallest, after rationally assessing the possible consequences, ”V. Čmilytė-Nielsen taught.
After the entry into force of the US sanctions on Belaruskalij, the transit of fertilizers through Lithuania did not stop. In addition, after Belaruskalij made an advance payment for railway services in November, these funds may be sufficient for transportation in December, January and February.
The agreement of the Lithuanian Railways with Belaruskali, although it is stated that the US sanctions for the transit of fertilizers in Lithuania, has been announced.
