Toulouse: the huge platform which must “revolutionize” logistics is ready
After twenty months of work, the new logistics area known as “the last mile” avenue de la Fondeyre, was inaugurated. It should help relieve traffic in the city center and improve air quality. But questions remain unanswered …
These are two huge hangars of 19,500 m2 in which will pile up thousands of pallets and parcels intended for Toulouse residents. To achieve this large-scale project, it was necessary to bring together 15 main companies, 90 companions and an overall budget of 28.5 million euros, which make it the second largest French logistics zone after that of the Paris region. .
Concretely, this platform must pool the delivery of merchandise before it arrives in the hands of Toulouse traders and consumers. “What we want is to decarbonize logistics” explains the mayor of Toulouse and president of the metropolis, Jean-Luc Moudenc, who specifies that “15% of traffic in the city center is linked to the delivery of goods.” center makes it possible to limit the flow and reduce the number of kilometers traveled by vehicles. And then we invest in electricity. We are at the dawn of a revolution, “promises Philippe Wahl, Chairman and CEO of Le Groupe La Poste.
For the time being, 50% of parcels sent from this platform are carbon-free, according to figures from the La Poste group. “Our goal is to strive for 100%” explains the CEO. But for now, no deadline has been set to achieve this result. In the same way, Jean-Luc Moudenc assured “not to have the figures” concerning the concrete consequences of the arrival of this platform for the air quality of downtown Toulouse. “What I know is that the journeys will be shorter, so there will be less fine particle emissions. It is over time that we will measure the impact” assures Jean-Luc Moudenc.
