“When I hear on TV that we are doing everything to help women victims of violence, I want to go to Paris to tell them my way of thinking. “
For thirty years, Rose, a resident of Toulouse, was married. A marriage against a background of violence. “He was typing me, I answered,” details this woman, now 53 years old. And then my health deteriorated, I no longer go out to face it. And one day he threatened to kill my daughter. There I left. “
Application for social housing
It was in May 2020. Rose is leaving the family home with her two teenage children. “We hid with friends, but he found us. He was following us in the street, I lodged a complaint several times. “
In July 2020, Rose applied for social housing, in order to be able to move and hide your new address from your old companion. In the meantime, so as not to have her ex-companion annoy the friends who live with her, she decides to return to her mother. And the fate persists.
“She got sick and died in January 2021. I stayed in the house, but some of my siblings want to sell it, so I absolutely need a new roof. “
Priority file
In May 2021, a year after her application for social housing, Rose learned that her file was classified as “priority”. A few weeks later, his case was entrusted to Protestant Mutual Aid.
“We signed a contract together in July: they must find me accommodation within three months. But I’m still waiting. “
Due to her health problems, in particular heart problems, Rose has some imperatives: it is difficult for her to be accommodated on one floor of a building without an elevator, for example. She had to refuse one of the accommodations that had been offered to her and a second offer then passed under her nose.
Lack of housing
On the side of the Toulouse branch of the Protestant Mutual Aid, it is explained that it is very difficult to find social housing in Toulouse. “It’s complicated for large and small homes. We are looking, but there is few accommodations available and few housing units being built. ”
According to the estimate of the association, there would be a shortage of twenty housing units to be able to meet the expectations of people accompanied by the Protestant Mutual Aid. And the situation is worsening because of the crisis: “It strongly limits the turnover: people no longer leave their homes as before. ”
“Dramatic situations like this one we live with every day,” explains the president of the association. It is very complicated for social workers to manage. “
“Nobody helps me to keep me out of the water”
While waiting for the situation to unblock, Rose lives in anguish. “We are told: if you are beaten, leave your husband, we will help you! But that’s not true, no one is helping me keep me out of the water. Between the pressure my brothers and sisters put on me to sell and my former companion who comes into the house whenever he wants, here I am at the end of the line. As I no longer live with him, I’m sure I’m protected, but that’s wrong! I need a new home to hide and live in peace. ”
