THE HAGUE (ANP) – Many exports from the Netherlands barely yield anything. Almost half of all goods that leave our country only briefly enter the Netherlands and remain in foreign hands, also known as transit. According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the Netherlands earns only 1.3 cents per euro of turnover generated by the transit of goods.
The statistical office states that the merits of transit are also low compared to the costs, such as road wear, delays for other traffic from pollutant emissions. For example, CBS estimates CO2 emissions due to transit at 2 percent of the total in the Netherlands, particulate matter emissions at 5 percent and nitrogen emissions at 18 percent. At 5.3 billion euros, the earnings account for 0.7 percent of the economy.
The total value of goods issued by the Netherlands last year amounted to 843 billion euros. In addition to the 46 percent of these, there is implementation. In addition, products do come into Dutch hands and are often processed. Reruns accounted for 28 percent of the total value and 16 percent of the total value.
The Netherlands therefore earned from the export of Dutch goods. These accounted for 80 percent of the outbound freight transport services. The value of those goods paid payments a quarter of the 843 billion euros.
Re-exports provide the Netherlands with more than 1.3 cents per euro of turnover from the transit of goods, namely 10 cents per euro. For the export of goods of Dutch origin, the earnings are 56 cents for every euro in exports, the CBS calculated.
