Man sentenced to 8 years in prison after admitting to raping his partner’s 14-year-old daughter
A man who admitted to raping his partner’s 14-year-old daughter, who subjected her to repeated sexual abuse, has been sentenced to eight years in prison by a court that granted the parties’ joint request.
The abuse dates back to the years between 2015 and 2017 when the 40-year-old man lived in the same house as his partner and his minor daughter in Żabbar.
Criminal investigations into the suspect began following a report by a social worker from Appogg who approached the Vici Squad about an anonymous report that had come before her about the suspected abuse.
In the presence of her mother, the girl later told the police how the man was going to approach her while she was sleeping in her room.
Suddenly she would wake up to find him next to her, insisting on having sex with her and repeatedly forcing himself on her to satisfy his sexual desire.
Upon arrest, the man initially did not refute those allegations and even said he regretted his behavior.
He later pleaded not guilty to raping the 14-year-old, engaging in sexual intercourse with her as well as defiling the girl.
Following the completion of the taking of evidence and the issuance of the indictment, the husband’s lawyer filed a joint action with the Attorney General asking the court to impose an 8-year prison sentence in the case of admission.
On Thursday, the man, whose name was banned by court order, pleaded guilty after that plea bargaining exercise.
The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera, observed that the admission had not been registered at an early stage of the proceedings.
In the light of local and foreign case law, the Court granted the joint request and sentenced the man to an effective prison sentence of eight years, together with a payment of € 575.60 as court costs.
