Eight gas attacks on police officers in Thessaloniki
The Union of Police Officers of Thessaloniki expresses anxiety, after the incidents of attacks with incendiary devices (gas canisters) that were placed at the entrances of apartment buildings in the city, where police officers live. It is characteristic that out of the eight attacks that have taken place recently in Thessaloniki, including on 13/10, 15/11 and 10/12, the four concerned police officers, who last July, were openly proclaimed along with 17 others by the organization “Anarchist Action” after the posting of the website belonging to the wider anti-authoritarian space. Another four attacks were carried out on police officers who were out of the relevant list, while at the same time there were other identical ones, in other bodies such as the one that took place in the early hours of December 6 against a professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. «The situation has now reached uncontrollable proportions. Almost every week we have such an action and the non-existent reaction from any body in the city raises many questions.“The president of EAFTH, Theodoros Tsairidis, tells GRTimes, adding meaningfully that”and some others from gas canisters started and reached the armed struggle. It is not possible for an entire institution with the main object of citizen protection to be left in the lurch of the appetites of extremist groups».
