Koronovios: Athens ICUs are filled by patients from the region – Express transfers
The number of patients in the ICU of public hospitals in Athens is increasing day by day with patients with coronavirus who arrive daily from hospitals in the region. According to information from ethnos.gr, in recent days dozens of patients from various parts of the country arrive by EKAB ambulances in Attica with procedures, in order to be treated in an ICU bed, due to lack of beds in small cities in the rest of Greece.
Coronavirus: 90% fullness of ICUs in Attica
According to the information of ethnos.gr, today the occupancy of the ICUs of the hospitals of Athens reaches 90%, a percentage that increased due to the transfer of patients from the province. On the contrary, the simple covid beds “endure” even in the capital, since they are covered to 70%.
The areas from both reach patients with covid are mainly from Thessaly, Central Greece, Peloponnese, Epirus as well as from Western Greece and the islands. In particular, based on the records that exist in the 1st Health District (RAE), patients who need hospitalization in the ICU but there is no bed available in the rest of the country, consequently coming to Athens from the following Health Regions:
- 2nd RAE of Piraeus and Islands
- 5th RIA of Thessaly & Central Greece
- 6th RDA of Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece
New ICU beds
The daily needs are increasing in all the hospitals of Attica, although the Basin still does not seem to have the same burden in relation to Northern Greece. Nevertheless, the hospitals are on standby so that if necessary, additional ICU beds can be opened.
Already due to the increase observed in recent days, new ICU beds are opening, starting with Evangelismos, while others will follow in hospitals in Athens.
After all, the fear is that now that the winter will be over for good and the cases of the Omicron Mutation will increase, as scientists expect, it is possible that many ICU beds will be required to cover the incidents.
It is indicative, after all, that we are now at the worst point of the pandemic if one considers that 714 of our fellow human beings are intubated in the ICU all over the country, while only yesterday the deaths hit a black record with 116 losses.
