More than a solid job reference
When Thomas Schnöll broke up his tents in St. Johann in the summer of 2019 just to join Salzburg-Ligist Adnet, no one could have guessed what the rising star in the coaching sky was going to do in Tennengau’s 3,600-inhabitant village. After Adneter died in the 2018/19 season as a promoted player and immediately before Schnöll took up service, he was in 14th place in the table and two finally canceled years of play in second and sixth place respectively. And this autumn, too, the workforce around Schnöll was far away from the table basement. Quite the opposite: With one point behind the table runner-up Eugendorfer, as an excellent fifth you rightly look at the tabular top floor. It’s no wonder that the trainer goes into raptures: “The team is top in character, the club is very familiar and professional. I found open ears for all my ideas and everyone was behind the path I had chosen.” Schnöll connects the thoughts of the said summer in 2019 with a “courageous decision” Adnet: “Back then it was anything but natural to get me as a very young trainer (note: 27 years old) and to give me the chance to to work in the Salzburg league. I’m very grateful to them for that. ” Around 28 months later, they parted ways, Schnöll took the next step up the career ladder and said yes to the offer from regional league team Grödig. The now ex-coach throws a lot of roses on the “ex”: “It was an outstanding time that I couldn’t have imagined better.”
Aroused interest
Schnöll was already the object of Grödig’s desire in summer. “Heimo Pfeifenberger contacted me for the first time and expressed his interest.” After Schnöll did not deal with this during the autumn season and had fully concentrated on his SK Adnet topic, Salzburg’s footballer of the century came back to his desired successor in November. “The discussions then became more and more concrete,” reveals Schnöll, who finally accepted the offer of the former Bundesliga club. “The club tried to help me and convinced me of the chosen path. The general conditions and infrastructure are excellent. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming time with the team and approaching the task with humility.”
Appeal for patience – Schnöll: “Will not everything work overnight?”
After the 2nd regional league south and the Salzburg league, Schnöll is now waiting for the top floor of Salzburg amateur football, the Salzburg regional league. The expectations are high, the plan has already been forged. Schnöll: “First of all, I hope to be able to convey my ideas and principles to the team quickly in order to start a development-oriented process. The way we perform is particularly important to me personally. The squad is very young and talented, accordingly you have to be patient, because not everything will work overnight. ” The Grödig team finished the basic round in eighth place, and after a bumpy start they got better and better as the season progressed.
For Schnöll only the here and now counts
The 30-year-old is currently in the middle of training for a UEFA A license. Four weeks have already been completed, and the graduation will take place in summer 2022. So the question is not too far-fetched whether the vocational school teacher could also imagine becoming involved in professional football at some point. Grödig’s neo-trainer modestly: “I only deal with things that I can influence – everything else is not in my hands. As a coach, the only thing that counts for me is the present and football is so fast-paced that a future forecast is hardly possible or mine The aim is to develop myself personally and in terms of content every day as a trainer in situations that are simply needed. “
