Several demos against CoV measures – tirol.ORF.at
The right to freedom of demonstration is an important basic right in Austria. It is currently being used very often, confirmed the commandant Wolfgang Ostheimer of the Innsbruck police: “In Innsbruck not a day goes by without a demonstration. Especially on the last weekends there were two or three times a day, ”said the policeman.
Three major anti-action demos
At Innsbruck Landhausplatz, around 300 people demonstrated on Sunday against the compulsory vaccination and against the current measures to contain the pandemic. There were also major demonstrations against the corona policy in Kufstein and Lienz on Sunday. A smaller demonstration with around 100 people protested in Innsbruck against Turkish attacks on Kurdish areas.
Many demonstrations mean a logistical challenge for the executive branch. The free weekends for police officers are currently rare: “The number of demonstrations is united,” says the Innsbruck head of operations. If meetings are unannounced, it makes it difficult for us to plan everything and still use it, says Wolfgang Ostheimer.
Perchten performance in Kufstein
In Kufstein, too, people took to the streets on Sunday. Traditional associations criticize the fact that they are not allowed to hold Krampus parades and Perchten runs for the second time because of the usual measures.
According to the executive, the demonstration with 800 participants was peaceful. However, several violations of the Covid measures were found, for example, that no masks were worn. Some advertisements were issued. There were also similar complaints in Lienz, where 700 anti-vaccination opponents marched peacefully through the city center. According to the police, there were also some reports here.
Demonstrators in Tyrol “disciplined”
In general, the demonstrations in Tyrol are mostly disciplined and peaceful, as the police emphasized: “We are very satisfied with the way things are currently going. We try, of course, to ensure that every demonstration can be carried out safely and nothing happens, ”continued the commander.
If a demonstration takes place unannounced, this does not automatically mean that it will be dissolved. YOU can, however, be a criminal offense for the meeting leader, so why does the executive appeal to report planned meetings in good time so that security measures can be possible: Unannounced demos mean that we do not know how many people are coming or where the route will be. It helps us a lot by registering. “
