Salzburgers are among the most generous when it comes to donations

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the willingness to donate remains high. The Austrians spent 810 million euros on a good cause last year. For this year, 850 million euros are expected. In a comparison of the federal states, Salzburg are among the most generous in terms of donations.
With an increase of twelve percent compared to 2019, this was the largest increase in the last ten years, according to the Fundraising Association Austria. Salzburg donated an average of 162 euros this year. Together with Vorarlberg and Tyrol, the people in this country also spend the most money on a good cause. The federal state average is 114 euros.
Payment slip remains the most popular donation form
The most important organizations for which donated was devoted to child welfare and animal welfare, says the managing director of the social research institute Public Opinion, Bernhard Hofer. A look at the art and way in which people die in Austria spend, shows that while online spending has gained momentum during the pandemic, the payment slip remains the most popular means of donating money.
SME spending the most
The analysis of donations shows that in Austria nine percent of donations come from foundations and eleven percent from companies. With 80 percent or the equivalent of 645 million euros, private households provide the share. According to an analysis by the Austrian Fundraising Association, medium-sized businesses with an annual income of more than EUR 31,000 donate to charitable causes.
