Lampert, Hassler and Synchro-Duo win the title – Liechtenstein
SCHAAN – The decision has been made! After nearly 1500 votes have been cast, the titleholders of this year’s athletes’ election have been determined. In the men’s category, kickboxer Michael Lampert prevailed, while Julia Hassler was swimmer of the year, as in 2019. And in the team of the year, the title goes to the artistic swimming duet with Marluce Schierscher and Lara Mechnig.
After the cancellation of the Night of Sports last year, the corona pandemic is not due to any festivities this year either. Athlete, athlete and team of the year were awarded this year differently than in 2019. However, the currently adapted situation, in a small but more than worthy setting in Eschen.
After casting around 1500 votes in the last two weeks, the following people were able to prevail in the 2021 athlete election. Kickboxer Michael Lampert, who recently announced his retirement from top-class sport, can call himself athlete of the year. He prevailed against his four opponents Christoph Meier (swimming), Matthias Kaiser (motorsport), Quentin Sanzo (monobo) and Marco Pfiffner (alpine skiing).
A resigned FL athlete was also allowed to cheer for the women. Swimmers Julia Hassler became the title holder for the fourth time, beating her three opponents Tina Weirather (alpine skiing), Fabienne Wohlwend (motorsport) and Léonie Guerra (dressage).
In the meantime, there was no choice in choosing the team of the year. Only the artistic swimming duet with Marluce Schierscher and Lara Mechnig was nominated and ultimately voted. The FL duo, who represented Liechtenstein at the Olympic Games for the first time in the summer, definitely deserved the title.
In addition to the elections in the three main categories, two other titles were awarded. Francesca Zampieri, the artist-swimming duo leading to the Olympic Games, can be celebrated as Coach of the Year. She prevailed against FCV coach Mario Frick.
For the first time this year, the title “Newcomer of the Year” was also awarded. Here the mountain biker Romano Püntener, who impressed with strong results throughout the season, was ahead by a nose. His fellow competitors were show jumper Jennifer Hochstadter, drone pilot Marvin Schäpper, chess player Timea Sele and athlete Jule Insinna.
Furthermore, Günther Büchel, Renato Frick, Katherine Broder and Verena Neidow were honored for their tireless commitment to Liechtenstein sport.
