45 Covid patients in Salzburg in intensive care units
“As of today, there are 45 Covid patients in intensive care units, 39 of whom are unvaccinated,” summarizes Gernot Filipp, head of state statistics. And Primaria Uta Hoppe, spokeswoman for the crisis team, has more details on the situation in the hospitals.
“Unfortunately, completely healthy people aged 40 to 50 are now in the intensive care unit with a heart-lung machine. We see very clearly in the hospitals that only a vaccination protects against serious disease progression and that fully immunized patients recover more quickly, even in hospitals. It is therefore only logical and sensible to get vaccinated now, ”emphasizes Dr. Uta Hoppe, Primary at the University Hospital Salzburg.
The proportion of vaccinated people in hospitals is falling
There are currently 255 people with Covid-19 patients in the hospital, 45 of them in the intensive care unit. In the domestic Covid intensive care units, both the average age (62 years) and the proportion of fully immunized, which as of 8:30 a.m. yesterday, are falling at 13 percent. “Of the six fully immunized people who are currently in the hospital in the intensive care unit, all have a previous illness or are immunosuppressed after, for example, an organ transplant. It is the absolute exception that young vaccinated people without previous illnesses have to be treated as inpatients or even in the intensive care unit, ”explains Dr. Uta Hoppe.
Hoppe: “Vaccination status is crucial”
“The vaccination not only prevents most of the infections with the corona virus and severe courses. We have been observing that for months. Therefore, my message can only be: Please go for the vaccination. It saves almost everyone from hospitalization, protects fellow human beings and relieves the burden on the health system. The waves will keep coming if as many people as possible don’t go for the vaccination, ”says Primaria Hoppe.

The key data for vaccination
As of today, 7.30 a.m., 63.4 percent of Salzburg residents are fully vaccinated against Corona. However, there is still a long way to go before the recommended vaccination coverage of 80 to 85 percent is achieved. The range of options to get protection against the corona virus seven days a week with and without registration is greater than ever and is also very well received.
