In Marseille, the distress of the medico-social sector faced with the shortage of personnel
For several weeks the social and medico-social sector has been mobilizing everywhere in the territory, like this Tuesday in Marseille, to denounce “the crisis in human occupations”. The labor shortage has become so acute that professionals in this fast-growing economic sector are launching a real SOS and asking the government for emergency measures when most of the professions are forgotten in Ségur de la Santé.
“We do low-cost home support” – Mathieu Leca, from UNA Paca
I have to say that the lack of resources now threatens the support of the most vulnerable, for the most part without any autonomy: young people or disabled adults, elderly people, etc. “We are in a zero CV period, testifies Mathieu Leca, of the UNA (National Union of Home Help and Services) in Paca. Before we made an ad, we had dozens of applications arriving. Today, in certain territories, it happens that advertisements are placed and for weeks zero CVs on all these jobs in tension. It’s urgent. We no longer have staff and our support is degraded. We do low-cost home support, to the detriment of beneficiaries and employees “.
65,000 jobs not installed in the medico-social sector
According to a study, 65,000 unplanned positions in the country. Caregiver, carer, nurse: they are 1.7 million employees working in these professions, often poorly paid, precarious, discredited and tiring, whether at home or in adapted structures. Besides, seven out of ten establishments says they have difficulty recruiting.
Consequence of the lack of staff at home or in reception structures, families often have to compensate. This is the case of Fabienne, a 62-year-old Marseillaise, mother of a disabled adult aged 35, totally dependent. “A toilet for example, testifies the mother, it’s not just 10 minutes. They must be massaged so that stiffness does not set in. Then you have to dress them and with all their stiffness, their contractions, it easily takes 45 minutes. “

Faced with the emergency, several unions and collectives are calling for a national day of strike and demonstration on Tuesday, December 7. To ask for emergency measures, in particular to revalue salaries and improve the attractiveness of these human professions.
