STA, November 29, 2021 – In Monday’s commentary, the newspaper Večer writes about the “vicious circle” of rising residential real estate prices in Slovenia and notes that for many people home ownership is becoming unattainable.
A piece titled Vicious Circle [Rast cen nepremičnin: V začaranem krogu], notes that 94 percent of residential real estate in Slovenia is privately owned, and now the question is how to buy an apartment given the skyrocketing prices.
“After the last increase in real estate prices to more than 8,000 euros (!) Per square meter in Ljubljana, it is obvious that a smaller circle of people can afford real estate. […]
“We have entered a vicious real estate circle from which many do not see a way out,” the newspaper writes, noting that only this year prices in some locations have risen by 40 percent compared to 2015, and used apartments cost almost as much as new ones. those.
The newspaper notes that young people who are buying their first home, or families who would like to continue with the birth of a child, are under the most pressure. “If they have no savings or they hit the lottery, buying a roof over your head today is anything but mission impossible.”
Given the lack of rental housing, it is no easier to rent an apartment. “For incomprehensible reasons, the state is blocking the construction of rental housing, which could at least partially alleviate the rage in real estate prices in the future.”
