The Digitization Coordination Group is leading co-operation with stakeholders to create a digital compass for Finland
Ministry The Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labor organized the opening event of the Finnish digital compass on Friday 26 November 2021. The aim is to formulate a common national vision and goals for the digital transformation and data economy. for the year 2030.
At its first meeting on 27 October 2021, the Ministerial Working Group on the Development of Digitalisation, the Information Economy and Public Administration decided to create a digital compass in Finland during the spring of 2022.
“The European Commission has proposed targets that will serve as a basis for our compass, but we will raise our ambition to match our national views and set our own national targets as needed. In many ways, we are one of Europe’s leaders in digitalisation, and our compass could show direction to other countries, says the Minister for Transport and Communications. Timo Harakka.
This digital compass revolves around four main points: skills, secure and sustainable digital infrastructures, the digital transformation of businesses and the digitalisation of public services. The purpose of the Finnish digital compass is to set national targets and indicators for these areas and to create a unified vision of digital change.
The event on Friday began working with various stakeholders to create a digital compass.
“The government wants to improve the state’s capacity to support the digital transformation of society. Digital Transformation is a nationwide project across all industries that requires extensive collaboration. Joint efforts will pay off, as everyone can benefit. In the state administration, digital change is progressing well, but we all need to contribute to maintaining the momentum, ”says the Minister of Local Government. Sirpa Paatero.
At the kick-off event, participants discussed the guidelines for the digital compass, national targets and indicators, and the need to create a unified vision for digital change. Stakeholders commented on various aspects of the digital compass, such as trust in digital services and the need for new skills and competencies.
The launch event also saw the presentation of the Digitization Coordination Group set up in October. The Digitization Coordination Group is a permanent inter-ministerial working group whose task is to strengthen inter-ministerial co-operation, co-ordination and the flow of information. It is also responsible for creating the Finnish digital compass. As a key part of its work, the group engages in an ongoing and results-oriented dialogue with stakeholders and international partners.
What next?
The design work for the digital compass will continue in cooperation with stakeholders. Workshops and consultations will be held in January-February 2022. Preparatory work is scheduled for completion in March 2022.
