This initiative of the Investigative Committee was considered at the next meeting of the Security Council of Belarus.
MINSK, 28 Nov – Sputnik… In absentia bringing citizens to criminal responsibility in Belarus, State Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Volfovich said on the air of the STV TV channel.
“The principle of inevitability of criminal punishment for a committed crime has not been fulfilled. He will be sentenced in absentia to one or another punishment depending on the severity of the offense,” he said.
In his opinion, this will “leave an imprint” when he is abroad, he will be sentenced, for example, to two or three years in prison or to another term, which will be determined by the court.
The State Secretary of the Security Council noted that the initiative has already been supported by the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office, and that the issue is serious.
