IIT Delhi, Business Sweden signs MoU for clean air and green energy collaborations

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Business Sweden-The Swedish Trade and Invest Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the field of clean air and green energy.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, and Cecilia Oskarsson, Trade and Investment Commissioner for Sweden to India. The Memorandum of Understanding aims to identify mutual collaboration opportunities, introduce innovative solutions for industry and academia, given the continuity of the India Sweden Innovations Accelerator Program and the Sustainability by Sweden Showroom and Platform in India.
Rao spoke about the need for clean energy to achieve the goal promised by India at COP26, Glasgow, to reduce the carbon dioxide intensity of its economy to 45% by 2030 and meet 50% of its energy needs through renewable energy by 2030.
The Director of IIT Delhi also spoke about the need to collaborate in other areas such as smart grids and battery storage solutions to move from a coal-based economy to a renewable energy economy. He also mentioned the various start-up companies that are incubated at IIT Delhi which provide a huge opportunity for collaboration with the Swedish industry.
Oskarsson spoke about the opportunities for knowledge sharing and learning from Swedish industry, a leader in the development of sustainable and innovative technologies. She also proposed academic exchange programs, collaboration with innovative solution providers from Sweden and joint R&D projects in the area of clean air, energy, environment and urban development.
SK Khare, Dean (R&D), IIT Delhi, informed about existing research projects included in the collaboration and opportunities for future collaborations in areas other than clean air and clean energy.
Anurag Rathore, Dean, Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi, spoke about organizing interactive events with the Swedish industry at IIT Delhi and promoting knowledge sharing and development of technologies that are India-centered. He also talked about financial support from Swedish industry to promote joint research in new and high-priority areas.
Ludvig Lindström, Country Manager, Swedish Energy Agency, traced the history of India Sweden Innovations Accelerator and Sustainability by Sweden showroom in India, together with over 200 pilot / commercial projects established in India as part of the effect created by solutions introduced through these frameworks .
Pawan Tahlani, Vertical Lead Sustainability and Climate Change, Business Sweden, said that the three main focus areas for this collaboration are industry-academy collaboration for co-creation of next-generation solutions and university-level collaborations for expertise and student exchange.
