Covid-19. Number of hospitalized in Portugal doubled in 18 days – Observer

In just 18 days, the number of people hospitalized with Covid-19 in Portugal doubled. According to the bulletin released this Sunday by the General Directorate of Health, there is now 764 inpatients in the wards of Portuguese hospitals with disease caused by the coronavirus – a figure that is more than double the 360 inpatients on 10 November.
This Sunday’s numbers consolidate the continuous growth trend of admissions by Covid-19 in Portugal: is the 22nd consecutive day that the number has increased. It is also the day with the highest number of hospitalized patients since August 16, when there were 768 people in the wards.
Compared to the previous day, the number of hospitalized increased by 56 in the wards, although in intensive care units the number of inpatients remained unchanged at 104.
This happens on a day they registered in Portugal 2,897 new cases of coronavirus infection and in which 12 people died killed from Covid-19. This Sunday’s numbers rise to 1,142,707 the total number of cases diagnosed since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, in March 2020. The number of deaths rises to 18.417.
During the week that has just ended, an average of 2,918 new cases per day were registered in Portugal. This is a greater weekly average than the 2,114 cases per day recorded in the week ending last Sunday – and practically double the 1,419 cases per day that were detected, on average, over the week of November 8-14.. In other words: in just two weeks, the average number of daily cases doubled, in line with what the Ministry of Health, Marta Temido, assumed this week.
According to the DGS, a total of 857 people recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This number is considerably below the 2,897 new cases, which has caused the number of active cases to rise to 53,717 – 2,028 more than the day before. DGS currently has 60,630 contacts under surveillance.
Of the 12 people who died from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the youngest was a woman aged between 50 and 59 years.. Two men between 60 and 69 years old also died. Most deaths occurred in people over 70 years of age: three people between 70 and 79 and six over 80.
With regard to the geographic distribution of Covid-19 cases, the biggest worrying concentration is in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (with 902 new cases) and in the North region (with 828 new cases). The Center (697), Algarve (230), Madeira (120), Alentejo (96) and Azores (24) follow. As for the deaths, five occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, four in Madeira, two in the Algarve and one in the North.
